A Los Altos man could face possible felony charges for allegedly kicking his 8-year-old son in the head last week after a bike ride outing turned sour.

The Los Altos Police turned the case over to the District Attorney’s Office for further investigation.

Police said the man and his son were riding bicycles Aug. 18 on Raymundo Avenue when the boy accidentally bumped into his father’s bike as he was turning.

The collision sent both riders to the ground, Sgt. Tom Connelly said.

The man began yelling at the boy and allegedly kicked him once in the head, according to witnesses.

A significant number of bystanders witnessed the event, several of whom came to aid the boy, Connelly said.

The boy was wearing a bike helmet and did not suffer any physical injuries, Connelly said.

The man could face corporal punishment charges or misdemeanor battery charges.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
