The 13th Annual Red Barn Festival, called “A Day on the Farm,” is scheduled for Saturday at the Stanford Equestrian Center.

The day program, set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., will include demonstrations of different horse breeds and riding activities, exhibits, a petting zoo, pony rides and a silent auction.

The evening program, slated to start at 5:30 p.m., will feature a buffet barbecue dinner, western dancing and an auction of donated goods and services.

Singing group the Aquanettas will perform during both the day and evening programs.

Tickets for the day program, available at the gate, are $10 adults, $8 with Stanford ID, $5 children ages 6 and over and free for those under 6. Tickets to the evening program, which should be reserved in advance, are $40, $35 for those with Stanford ID.

A portion of the proceeds from the festival will help provide a mini-equestrian camp for children from the Peninsula Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

The Stanford Equestrian Center is located on Electioneer Road on the Stanford University campus.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
