Los Altos police are looking for the hit-and-run driver who struck a parked Bronco with such force Aug.10 that it caused the vehicle to lunge forward about 30 feet into two trees in front of the owner’s West Portola Avenue property.
Beth Neylan said her family was asleep when a black truck allegedly swerved into her son’s Bronco parked in the street in front of their home at around 3 a.m..
“I didn’t even hear it,” she said. “We didn’t know anything had happened until the police came to the house and told us to come outside.”
Neylan said her son’s vehicle was totaled.
Two neighbors walking their dog on nearby Van Buren told Neylan they saw a black truck speeding and swerving toward them, she said. The neighbors said the driver appeared to be a male teen.
Neylan launched her own campaign to find the reckless driver last week.
“I’m not looking to press charges. I just want to be compensated,” said Neylan, whose son was scheduled to drive back to college this month.
Witnesses said the vehicle was a black, lifted Dakota Dodge truck with a crew cab, tinted windows and a U-shaped dent in the rear bumper.
