For 19 years, Women Physicians Ob-Gyn Medical Group has been providing services specializing in women’s health.

“I think this service is different in many respects,” said Dr. Katherine Sutherland, one of the founding members of the group. “We focus on a full spectrum of women’s health-care issues and treat women of all ages.”

Located in Mountain View, Sutherland said she and Dr. Christine Litwin-Sanguinetti decided to provide a specialized practice designed specifically for women after the two were working in other medical groups with men.

After going through life experiences such as childbirth, herself, Sutherland said she is able to give her patients medical advice and support based on her experiences.

“I’m not saying anything negative about men doctors, but I feel that our patients are more comfortable talking to (women doctors) about certain things.”

The medical group has added two more doctors and a nurse practitioner - all female.

Although the group isn’t the first of its kind to focus specifically on women’s health, Sutherland said it’s the first group she’s known that is comprised of all female doctors.

The age range of the doctors also helps the group to serve a wide spectrum of women, from teens to adults.

She said a doctor in the group is “10 years or more my junior,” so they deal with younger clients looking for information on such things as birth control.

For Sutherland, her practice focuses more on older women who are or have gone through the same stages she has.

“I’ve known some of my patients for as long as 20 years,” she said. “They’ve aged with me.”

Most of her patients are seeking information on issues such as hormonal changes during menopause, something they might not feel comfortable discussing with a male doctor.

“Some have so many questions that were just put off with their regular physicians,” Sutherland said.

The type of practice the group has, she said, helps her build a relationship beyond the usual patient-doctor type.

Apart from providing women with medical advice, there are also other services the group offers, including Botox and massage therapy that would help remove cellulite.
