All Los Altos and Los Altos Hills residents are encouraged to save the evening of Sept. 11 for a special commemoration of last year’s tragedy.

“Remembering 9/11″ will be a one-hour community wide gathering scheduled for 6:30- 7:30 p.m., on the Hillview Soccer Field.

The program is particularly intended to be meaningful for families.

The event will recognize the impact of that horrific day a year ago when terrorists attacked New York City, Washington, D.C., and Virginia.

The evening will honor our own “Hometown Security Personnel” - the police, sheriff deputies and firefighters who protect residents 24/7.

Dr. Dick Henning of Foothill College will emcee the event. The program will include special music and presentations by guest speakers.

The event is being organized and hosted by a Steering Committee of local residents.

More details to follow next week.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
