By Comment for open space plan extended

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District extended the public comment period for the San Mateo Coastal Annexation Draft Environmental Impact Report to 5 p.m., Aug. 30.

The proposed annexation would extend the district’s boundary and sphere of influence to include coastal San Mateo County from the southern boundary of the city of Pacifica south to the boundary of San Mateo/ Santa Cruz County and from the district’s current boundary west to the Pacific Ocean.

The district’s purpose in pursuing annexation is to preserve open space and agricultural lands on the San Mateo County coast by acquiring and managing open space lands.

The impact report analyzes land use, traffic, noise and water quality issues.

A copy of the report is available at the district offices, 330 Distel Circle, Los Altos, or the Los Altos Library at 13 S. San Antonio Road.

Send comments to Cathy Woodbury at the district office, or e-mail coast-eir@openspace.org.

The League of Women Voters of Los Altos-Mountain View has formed a committee to help develop a restoration plan for the NASA-Moffett Field lands due to concerns about the project.

The property falls under the jurisdiction of NASA Ames and the United States Navy. Members said they believe all parties involved need to collaborate with one another, and not be bound by existing jurisdictional constraints.

Members said they hope to contribute “proactively to a sustainable solution.”
