The West Bay Titans finished as the runner-up in the 15-and-under division of the Amateur Athletic Union National Baseball Tournament, which concluded last Friday in Kingsport, Tenn.

The Titans, with players from Los Altos, Mountain View and St. Francis highs, posted a 7-3 record in the weeklong event.

In Friday’s championship game, the Titans fell 8-3 to NorCal Baseball, an East Bay team.

The Titans suffered from “a lot of tired arms” in the title game, said Tom Davis, an assistant to West Bay manager Dave Salter.

The team played four games in the tourney’s final two days, during which the Titans knocked off a pair of undefeated squads.

This included a 3-0 semifinal win over the Tampa Bay Renegades Friday morning. Mountain View’s Erik Davis pitched a shutout in that game, improving his tourney record to 3-0.

The Titans also received strong pitching from David Stringer (Palo Alto). Brady Fuerst (St. Francis) was the team’s top hitter.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
