The 14th annual Small Brewers Festival is scheduled for this weekend in downtown Mountain View.

The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, behind the Tied House Brewery on Villa Street. Admission is free.

The festival is housed in a 16,000-square-foot tent that will contain beers from more than 40 California micro-breweries, food and live entertainment. A variety of music will be performed, including rock, jazz and country.

Offerings from amateur home brewers will be initially judged prior to the festival, with the “Best of Show” judging scheduled for Saturday. Last year’s “Best of Show” beer will be served at the festival.

Tasting kits, offered for a $20 donation, include a 2002 souvenir festival glass and eight tasting tickets.

The Small Brewers Festival of California, which puts on the event, is a non-profit organization that benefits 15 other non-profit organizations. Over the past 13 years, the festival has distributed approximately $800,000 to the participating non-profit groups.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
