Los Altos shops offer fashion tips

Whether students are stepping into their first or last year of schooling, Los Altos residents will soon be flooding the stores in search of fall fashions.

In downtown Los Altos, boutiques like Marion Jackston’s are preparing for preschool and elementary children, while shops like Anniki will be buzzing with women looking for high school, college and business trends.

In fact, downtown Los Altos shops are offering fall clothing that not only satisfies this year’s trends but also features its own exquisite style.

Elementary school children have an array of stores available to them such as Marion Jackston’s and Young Villagers.

Marion Jackston’s is one of the oldest children stores in Los Altos, having opened 38 years ago.

Though Marion Jackston’s offers uniforms for students attending Pinewood, it also has a large selection of clothing ranging from formal wear to casual sweaters and jeans. Beth Miller, the store’s owner since 1991, expects the ’70s trend to continue and said that, “there will be a lot of purple this fall. I’ve also noticed a lot of earth tones and girls wearing several small funkier clips rather than bows.”

Along with the turquoise stones, tweed and blue hues that have been raiding the ads in Vogue and Elle magazines, highschool and college students will be rummaging through racks for low-slung jeans, and vintage-like sweaters.

Stores like Calla and Anniki cater toward customers searching for sexy, fun or professional styles.

For instance, Calla on Main Street is stocked with the ever- popular Seven jeans. Calla offers them in a variety of different styles and shades perfect for this fall.

At 3-year-old Anniki, fashion buffs can indulge in Theory, Juicy Couture, Diane Von Furstenberg and Diesel fashions. Owner, Lawrence Mardini said that warm mellow colors and various stones (e.g.: turquoise) are going to be central to this fall’s trends.

He also recommended a more retro look for the fall, as well as casual hoodies and Puma tennis shoes. Elegant and more pointed boots are also going to be hot commodities starting September and crochetted scarves are making their way back from the late ’60s.

A last hint for the girls is to make their way over to Global Beads located on Castro Street in downtown Mountain View.

The store’s hippi-esque atmosphere and eclectic beads will help you design your own necklaces that are not only reasonably priced but are also completely original.

With school looming around the corner, at least students can have some fun preparing.

Some final shopping hints are to indulge in a couple unique items and then buy the basic chic clothes that are never out of fashion.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
