On Mane Street has a new owner and a new name. Albert Anhar has purchased the beauty salon from Linda Fioretti, and the new name will be Albert on Mane Street.
Years ago, Anhar’s family sent him to Germany to become an engineer, and he hated it. He called his father and said he wanted to do something else. Hairstyling appealed to him, so he entered the School of Cosmetology in San Jose.
“My father questioned my interest and asked if I could make any money in a hair salon. I told him if you have the passion for anything you want to do, the money will come,” Anhar said. “I didn’t have a license, so I played drums to get money while I went to school. After I got my license I worked in Los Altos for 10 years and then opened my own shop in San Jose.”
When he found out On Mane Street was available, he contacted Fioretti.
“The first day I came to Los Altos for a job interview, I visualized having a shop on Main Street. It was like a dream years ago, and now it’s happening,” he said.
Anhar’s specialty is hair cutting and coloring. He does a lot of “magazine hair” because the movies and television influence women’s hairstyles. Everyone has a different taste, and that’s what makes hairstyling interesting for him.
“When I walk on Main Street and pass a woman, it immediately comes to me how I could improve her color and haircut to suit her face and her lifestyle,” Anhar said.
Anhar worked as an educator for Redken products, explaining how they combine innovative technology and street-smart performance. That experience plus his ongoing education enables him to provide the style and looks that clients desire.
“I want the salon to provide an ambience of comfort,” he said.
Anhar will not rent or lease out any of the stations. His intention is to hire young stylists and train them.
Albert on Mane Street is located at 189 Main St. For more information, call 941-9919.
