By Car wash with spirit
The Los Altos High cheerleaders and dance team will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, in the Bandera’s restaurant parking lot off San Antonio Road in downtown Los Altos. Proceeds benefit the cheerleading/dance program.
Baseball at Baylands
Palo Alto Post 375 is scheduled to host the American Legion Area 2 Tournament this week at Baylands Athletic Center in Palo Alto. Tournament games were slated to begin Monday and run through Sunday. Post 375, coached by Tony Brewer, includes eight baseball players from Gunn High.
Teter: can’t beat her
Mountain View resident Nicole Teter was named USA Track & Field’s Athlete of the Week earlier this month for her stellar efforts in Switzerland and France. Teter, the United States indoor and outdoor 800-meter champ, set a personal record in the 800 (1:57.97) at the Athletissima meet in Lausanne, Switzerland, then won her first major European title in the 1,500 (4:05.52) at Meeting Gaz de France in Paris. Teter trains at Stanford University with the Nike Farm Team.
Golf for a cause
The 22nd Ross Mosier Golf Classic and Banquet, benefiting Cystic Fibrosis research at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, is scheduled for Monday at the Stanford University Golf Course. The Youthful Seniors Bike Ride departs from The Bicycle Outfitter at Loyola Corners in Los Altos at 10:30 a.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays. Riders can choose their challenge: 12 to 22 miles, flat route, some hills or major hills. For more information, call John Schaefer at 948-8092.

Los Altos and Mountain View highs are both seeking several coaches for the upcoming school year. Making a SPLASH
With no public swimming lessons available in Los Altos, the group Swimmers Promoting Los Altos Aquatics, Safety and Health (SPLASH) has compiled a list of swim lesson providers, complete with contact information, in adjacent towns. The list is available on SPLASH’s Web site www.splashcommunitypool.org/swimresources.htm. SPLASH is compiling the list as a service to the community, but doesn’t endorse any particular lesson provider and urges parents to investigate each lesson provider to determine which program is right for their children.
A ‘Golden’ camp
The 17th annual Golden Eagle Summer Swim & Sports Camp runs through Aug. 2 at Los Altos High. The camp is operated by Monica Lodge, Los Altos High athletic director and physical education teacher, and Nelson Lodge, USSA licensed soccer coach and P.E. teacher. Classes include swimming, water polo, softball, basketball, football, volleyball, badminton, field hockey, gymnastics, soccer, tennis, golf, wrestling and dance. Camp is for ages 5-14.
