The Palo Alto Oaks won both ends of a double-header last Sunday to remain perfect in the San Jose WBA Stan Musial League.
The semipro baseball team, featuring mostly area college players, swept the Salinas Heat at Willow Glen High.
The Oaks (12-0) won by scores of 2-1 and 11-5.
Starting pitcher Ben Lewis (San Jose State) won the opener, surrendering seven hits and an unearned run over six innings. He struck out six.
Shortstop Gabe Duran (West Valley College) drove in both Palo Alto runs, smacking a double in the first inning and a sacrifice fly in the sixth. James Boucher (Menlo College) scored both runs.
The Oaks jumped out to an early lead in the next game, racking up five runs in the second. Nick Duran (De Anza College) drove in the initial two runs, with St. Francis High graduate Grant Feichtmeir (Santa Clara University) bringing home the third run with a single.
Palo Alto had another five-run inning in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run homer by Matt Mueller (De Anza).
The Duran brothers accounted for six of the Oaks’ nine hits in the game; Nick had four and Gabe two. Gabe also produced three RBIs.
The Oaks host the Seaside Bombers in a double-header at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, at Baylands Park.
