“Celebration of Freedom” is the theme of the second annual Air Expo at Moffett Field, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., July 27 and 28 .

Organizers said the event will showcase America’s “military might” on the ground and in the air with action by the nation’s best military performance teams and the world’s best aerial performers.

In addition to two days of power aerobatics, there will be more than 30 premier aircraft on the ground, and an opportunity to walk inside NASA’s 747 Space Shuttle Carrier.

Top acts scheduled for the two-day event include:

High speed “Top Gun” demonstration by the Navy’s F/A-18 Super Hornet;

Maneuvers by the U.S. Air Force A-10 fighter team;

Gyroscopic aerial acrobatics of Jim LeRoy’s “Bulldog Airshow”;

Sky diving and combat rescue simulations by the 129th squadron of the California National Guard, featuring the “Wall of Fire”;

Daytime pyrotechnics of “The Wild Thing”;

Heritage flights featuring historic World War II and modern-day fighters.

The show’s popular “Tech Space Pavilion” will be inside Moffett’s Hangar One, where kids and adults can get handson with the latest gadgets and techno-toys, and a close-up look at some of NASA’s latest projects.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children ages 4-10. Children under 4 are admitted free. Premier seating with complimentary on-site parking is available by advance purchase only at www.airshownetwork.com.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
