By After being forced to curtail business hours on Fridays due to a financial shortfall, the Palo Alto Chapter American Red Cross began its fiscal year July 1 resuming its regular business hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Although the agency faced a $50,000 deficit, Executive Director Trish Bubenik stated, “We are pleased to be back serving the community.”

Serving the Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Palo Alto, Mountain View and Moffett Field areas, the chapter has a staff of 20 and a volunteer list of 800.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

When members of the Los Altos Village Association first created the summer movie nights, they anticipated an event that would attract more residents downtown as a way to promote business.

What they didn’t anticipate was an influx of middle schoolers, or that parents would use the weekly Friday night affair as an opportunity to drop off their children and have someone else (in this case, the Village Association) effectively watch over them.
