By Town Crier Staff Report
Foothill Music Theatre’s production of “On the Town” opens Friday and runs through Aug. 11 at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills.
“On the Town” is a musical set in 1944 about three Navy sailors on 24-hour shore leave in New York City. The story centers around Chip, Ozzie and Gabey as they hit the Big Apple in search of famous sights and pretty women. Their adventures include visits to Carnegie Hall, Times Square and Coney Island (as well as a few run-ins with several of New York’s Finest).
With music by Leonard Bernstein, and book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, “On the Town” was once called “the freshest and most engaging musical” by The New York Times.
The cast features Jared Lee (recently seen in Palo Alto Players’ “Personals”), Nathan Baynard (American Musical Theatre’s “Evita”) and Joe Duffy (American Musical Theatre’s “Damn Yankees”) as the three sailors.
The cast of 50 also includes Amy Lyn McDonald (42nd Street Moon’s “Goldilocks”), Julie Valentine (Foothill’s “Show Boat”) and Carrie Olsen (Bus Barn’s “Odd Couple”).
Multi-award-winning Foothill Music Theatre is under the direction of artistic director Jay Manley, who has earned several accolades for his past producing and directing efforts.
