By Water district director re-appointed to board

Santa Clara County Supervisor Liz Kniss reappointed Tony Estremera to the Santa Clara Valley Water District Board of Directors last week. He will represent the interests of the North County area, which includes Los Altos.

Estremera has served the community for the past 25 years through his work at the Legal Aid Society of Santa Clara County, the Santa Clara County Housing Task Force and the San Jose/Evergreen Community College District Board of Trustees.

The Santa Clara Valley Water District board of directors comprises seven members.

`Five members are elected from geographical areas which coincide with the county supervisorial districts, and two at-large members are appointed by the county Board of Supervisors. The directors serve overlapping four-year terms.

This structure was created pursuant to the adoption of the District Act.

Pool plans up for review

Santa Clara County

The city of Los Altos is scheduled to show the community initial designs for the pool complex planned for Rosita Park at 6:30 p.m., Thursday at Hillview Community Center, Room A. This is the first of several public meetings included in the project schedule.

The public is invited to view the architect’s schematics and to comment on the project’s site layout. Residents will also have the opportunity to review environmental impact mitigation measures under discussion.

The Department of Public Works has been working on a pool design with architect Spencer Associates of Palo Alto since last March.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
