The Community School of Music and Arts will soon be moving to downtown Mountain View, to a large, newly renovated facility at 220 View St. (former Mountain View School District Main Office). This move has been necessitated because of the Mountain View-Whisman School District’s need to use CSMA’s current site at 253 Martens Ave., for Huff School.

Effective July 15, CSMA will open its doors at its new site. This facility will serve as an interim home for the next 18-24 months while the school awaits construction of its $10.5 million permanent home at San Antonio Circle.

Classes and lessons are expected to continue uninterrupted, and program expansion, including art classes for adults, is slated to begin in the upcoming fall quarter.

“The View Street campus offers us significantly increased space in all areas, including music studios, classrooms, recital hall, lobby, administrative offices and parking,” said Bob Reay, chairman of the board of directors. “This 14,000-square-foot facility will allow us to serve our students better, with expanded music and visual arts programs, improved administrative services and broader community outreach opportunities.”

Music lessons and classes will begin July 15. CSMA’s popular summer camp program will begin July 17 at Theuerkauf School in Mountain View.

“CSMA’s residency at View Street promises to be an exciting and inspiring time,” executive director Angela McConnell said. “As we continue our capital campaign’s public phase to build Silicon Valley’s first center for music and arts education, we will also be growing our programs and welcoming new students and families in our commitment to provide arts for all.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to CSMA’s new site and to filling the campus with the sounds, songs and colors of music and art,” she added.

For information about CSMA and its programs, visit the school office at 253 Martens Ave. until June 30 or at 220 View St. after July 15; call 961-0342. Also, check their website at www.arts4all.org.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
