Celebration

The sponsors of “Glorious 4th,” the annual Independence Day celebration in Los Altos’ Shoup Park, are gearing up for a day of music and entertainment.

This year’s event will be held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 4. Shoup Park is located at 400 W. University Ave. Ye Olde Towne Band is scheduled to play as residents, friends and family from Los Altos and Los Altos Hills gather at Shoup Park. Attendees are welcome to come early, bring their own picnic to enjoy in the park, and put out their chairs or blankets on the grass.

Limited general and disabled parking is available in the park on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are encouraged to walk, bicycle or carpool to the festivities.

The program, beginning at 11 a.m., features the United States Marine Corps Drill Team and a keynote address by Captain Harold Schapelhouman of the Menlo Park Fire Department Search & Rescue Team.

After the program, visitors may picnic in the park and continue to enjoy music by the Los Altos Big Band.

Local Girl Scout troops will sell water, soda and ice cream following the program.

The celebration is sponsored by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, American Legion Post 558, Bank of Los Altos, Los Altos Community Foundation, Los Altos Town Crier, Kiwanis Club of Los Altos, Rotary Club of Los Altos and Veterans Memorial Association of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills.
