Twisters Gymnastics will be well represented at the United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs National Championship meet later this month.

Twisters of Mountain View has qualified a girls team and a boys squad for the meet, which runs Sunday through June 30 in Orlando, Fla.

The Twisters contingent totals 18 gymnasts, including eight from Los Altos.

The girls team of level 7 and 8 competitors features Justina Young, Jessica Lundgren, Wendy Shue, Courtney Sinclair and Avery Gee of Los Altos; Kat Shultis, Kristen Lund and Linda Lund of Mountain View; Katelyn Taylor, Becky Thompson and Kaitlin Moorhead of Palo Alto; and Leigh Bolton of Half Moon Bay.

This is the first year Twisters has sent an option level boys team to the national meet. The team consists of Parker Sinclair, Alex Oliver and Ian Tormey of Los Altos; Igor Hiller and Graham Stanton of Palo Alto; and Patrick Shen of Saratoga.

Coaches accompanying the Twisters gymnasts to nationals include girls head coach Nancy Kludt and assistants Ron Ludwig and Oleg Kosyak, plus boys head coach Jessica Jonoud. Jonoud is assisted by Oleg Kosyak, a 1996 bronze medalist for the Ukraine.

Twisters’ girls won the balance beam in every age group at the regional.

In level 8, Young placed first all-around in the children’s division (8-10) with a 33.075, winning bars, beam and floor. Shue was second all-around in the junior division (11-14) with a 34.575 and won beam. Linda Lund and Courtney Sinclair finished 1-2 all-around in the seniors division (14-15) with scores of 36.075 and 34.650, respectively. Lund won the vault and floor, while Sinclair claimed the bars.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

When members of the Los Altos Village Association first created the summer movie nights, they anticipated an event that would attract more residents downtown as a way to promote business.

What they didn’t anticipate was an influx of middle schoolers, or that parents would use the weekly Friday night affair as an opportunity to drop off their children and have someone else (in this case, the Village Association) effectively watch over them.
