June 11, 7 a.m., Ranchita Court, and June 12, 10:20 a.m., Wessex Avenue: Residents reported two separate incidents of mail stolen from their homes’ mailboxes.

Major injury accident

June 11, 7:35 a.m., Almond Avenue and Alicia Way: A cyclist suffered major injuries when a vehicle struck a bicycle.

Disturbance

June 14, 6:58 a.m., Covington Road: Police investigated a report of picketers at the Covington School construction site.

Suspicious person

June 14, 10:39 a.m., Brookmill Road and Ravenswood Drive: Police investigated reports of a man looking through area mailboxes.

Drunk driving

June 14, 2:37 p.m., University Avenue: Police stopped a motorist suspected of driving while intoxicated.

Fire assist

June 15, 3:16 p.m., Miramonte Avenue: Firefighters responded to a transformer fire in the area.

June 16, 3:09 p.m., Lockhaven Drive: Firefighters responded to a structure fire.

Juvenile disturbance

June 15, 9:21 p.m., State and Third streets: Juveniles were allegedly throwing water balloons at passing cars.

Stray animal

June 16, 1:07 a.m., Farndon Avenue: A resident reported a skunk in the home’s garage.

Welfare check

June 16, 1:57 p.m., San Antonio Road and El Camino Real: Police checked on the welfare of a dog left unattended in a vehicle.

Suspicious circumstances

June 16, 10:29 p.m., San Martin Place: A resident reported hearing a loud explosion.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
