Anne Warner Cribbs, CEO of the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee, will be the guest speaker at Saturday’s meeting of the Los Altos-Mountain View Branch of the American Association of University Women.
The meeting is slated for 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Program Room at the Los Altos main library, 13 S. San Antonio Road.
Cribbs has a long history in sports and her latest project is overseeing the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee, a non-profit organization leading San Francisco’s bid for the 2012 Olympics.
Cribbs won an Olympic gold medal in swimming at the 1960 Rome Games and was a co-founder of the American Basketball League, a defunct professional women’s league. She also holds positions as president of the Northern California Olympians, vice president of the U.S. Olympian Alumni Association, Advisory Board member for Women’s Sports Foundation and chairwoman for the San Jose Sports Authority.
Saturday’s meeting will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the passage of Title IX, the federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in federally funded educational institutions and programs.
