The Endangered Species, a Bay Area-based field hockey team with four Los Altos players, won the under-19 women’s division of the 2002 Cal Cup Tournament in Moorpark.

Thirty teams competed in this division over Memorial Day weekend. The Endangered Species won the first four games of their flight, beating the San Diego Rush, San Diego Finest, Newport and Campbell Express. That placed them in the semifinals against the San Jose Fly and then the Camarillo Cougars.

After beating both teams, the Endangered Species tied the San Diego Flyers 1-1 in the final but wound up winning the gold medal based on overall points.

The team is made up of Kelsey Alloo, Jooske DeGroot, Suzanne Garcia and Jeanette Hayman (Los Altos); Sarah Marquer (Mountain View); Alexandra Harkins, Brooke Madsen, Valerie Niles, Kiely Schmidt and Janelle Zetterquist (San Jose); and Heidi Hershberger, Anna Kane, Ana Kralovec, Erin Plicka and Lauren Roscoe (Davis).
