By New director of Christian education appointed

Foothills Congregational Church has announced the selection of Charlotte Asher, an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, as the new director of Christian education. She has been on leave the past decade teaching special education classes. Asher will be coordinating educational ministries with children and will be working with the church staff to ensure a rich and diverse program for all ages.

Foothills schedules theater party and picnic

Foothills Congregational Church has scheduled its Theater Party and All-Church Picnic Aug. 11. The event will begin with a performance of Leonard Bernstein’s musical “On the Town” at 2:30 p.m., at Foothill College’s Smithwick Theater. That will be followed by a picnic about 4 p.m. at Shoup Park. Signups for tickets will be in the church courtyard during July.

Registration open for summer Bible school

Los Altos United Methodist Church invites children ages 3 1/2 through sixth grade to attend Vacation Bible School June 24-28.

The younger children will travel to the Holy Land - Bethlehem, Bethany, Nazareth, Jerusalem and Capernaum - through stories, songs, crafts and activities, 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Children who have completed fourth through sixth grades will participate in their own program 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. They will have guest speakers from a search and rescue team and Guide Dogs for the Blind, participate in an off-site trail maintenance project and enjoy a pool party to close the week. Registration forms must be returned by June 10.

Foothills Congregational helps young Russian

Matt Broadbent, pastor of Foothills Congregational Church, Los Altos, has shared with his congregation his thanks for their help in providing Marina Faustova, a young Russian woman, an experience of a lifetime, fulfilling a dream.

Because of the congregation’s support, she was able to spend three months in Minnesota, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

During her time here, she went to Disneyland, played in the mountains of Utah, hiked in the redwoods and sailed on San Francisco Bay. She also stayed at several members’ homes.
