By Emma Deane, 13, of Los Altos and her pony Button Willow won the Novice Championship at the Westwind Barn Schooling Show on June 1.

Deane is an eighth grader at Cupertino Middle School and a member of the Saratoga Pony Club.

She won the championship by accumulating the most points in her division, which included jumping and equitation competitions.

Emma bought Button Willow in January and has been training him herself.

The annual horse show featured more than a dozen classes for local youths and their horses and ponies. It is one of several competitive events planned this year by Westwind Barn, owned by the town of Los Altos Hills and located on Altamont Road.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
