Los Altos Hills resident Sara Bowling returned from Canada with a gold medal last month.

The senior at Castilleja School won the platform diving event at the first-ever Canada-United States Junior Olympic Diving Challenge, held May 24-26 in Ottawa.

Bowling, who is headed to Stanford University in the fall, beat out favorite Emmanuelle DuPuis of Canada with a score of 367.70.

Bowling also earned a pair of bronze medals at the competition, placing third in both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events.

The top 40 U.S. and top 30 Canadian divers ages 13-18 were invited to participate in Junior Olympic Diving Challenge to see which team would take home the most points for their respective country. The U.S. team won the competition.
