By Special coaches needed
Special Olympics, Silicon Valley Region, seeks volunteers to help provide year-round sports training and competition to children and adults with developmental disabilities. No coaching experience is necessary. Over the summer, softball practices will take place at various sites throughout the valley. Fifty-Plus meeting

Get physical
Los Altos High athletes can take their physicals at the Mountain View Physical Therapy Clinic, 493 W. El Camino Real, from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday. Cost is $30, with proceeds going toward athletic training supplies for the school. All returning athletes and incoming freshman who plan to play a sport during the 2002-03 school year must first get a physical, according to Los Altos athletic director Monica Lodge.

Two Mountain View-Los Altos CYSA soccer teams are holding tryouts for the fall season. The Strikers, a Class I under-13 boys team is looking for experienced players (born after Aug. 1, 1989) who are interested in playing competitive soccer on a skilled team coached by a former pro player. Swim, polo sign-ups
West Bay is accepting sign-ups for its summer swim school, set for June 17-Aug. 1 at Los Altos High. The Monday-Thursday schedule is 4-5:30 p.m. for high school swimmers; 5:30-6:30 p.m. for grades 1-4 and 6:30-7:30 p.m. for grades 5-8. Cost is $225. A ‘Golden’ camp
Registration is under way for the Golden Eagle Summer Swim & Sports Camp, running June 17-Aug. 2 at Los Altos High. The camp is operated by Monica Lodge, Los Altos High athletic director and physical education teacher, and Nelson Lodge, USSA licensed soccer coach and P.E. teacher. Classes include swimming, water polo, softball, basketball, football, volleyball, badminton, field hockey, gymnastics, soccer, tennis and more. Camp is for ages 5-14.
