Rambus Inc., a leading developer of chip-to-chip interface technology with offices in Los Altos, recently announced the appointment of Steve Tobak as senior vice president of worldwide marketing. With 22 years experience in the semiconductor industry, Tobak brings extensive marketing, sales, product development and executive management experience to Rambus.

As the company’s senior marketing executive, Tobak will have direct responsibility for worldwide corporate marketing, as well as dotted-line responsibility for product marketing the company’s three product divisions.

Tobak’s primary task is to expand the market for Rambus’ interface technology and building equity in the corporate brand.

“Steve has had an impressive career successfully building innovative marketing programs for leading organizations,” said Geoff Tate, chief executive officer of Rambus Inc. “His proven management skills and broad semiconductor industry experience makes him the ideal candidate to lead Rambus’ worldwide marketing efforts.”

Tobak has held top marketing and sales roles at a number of semiconductor companies, including Tessera, National Semiconductor and communications; and Cyrix, as vice president of corporate and channel marketing.

He also held various executive and management roles at OPTi, Stac Electronics, NEC Electronics and Texas Instruments.

Tobak most recently served as CEO at InLight Communications, an early stage optical networking component company. Tobak earned a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the State University of New York, Stony Brook.

“I’m incredibly proud, energized and looking forward to working with this remarkable engineering and management team,” Tobak said.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
