Pinewood School has a won Central Coast Section 2002 Spring Season Scholastic Team Award in girls track and field.

Pinewood earned honorable-mention status in several other sports, as did Los Altos and St. Francis highs.

The awards recognize the varsity team from each CCS sport with the highest collective grade-point average (GPA) of all schools competing in that sport during the spring season.

Los Altos finished second in boys tennis (3.5728), third in softball (3.5000) and gymnastics (3.4267), fourth in boys swimming (3.3276), fifth in badminton (3.4146) and sixth in boys golf (3.3175).

St. Francis came in second in gymnastics (3.4700) and sixth in boys volleyball (3.3020).

Pinewood placed second in boys golf (3.5333), fourth in girls swimming (3.7027) and sixth in baseball (3.2444).

Winning teams receive a trophy and individual certificates.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
