By Deborah H. Hong of Los Altos and Christina U. Lee of Los Altos Hills have earned high honors for the winter term at Philips Exeter Academy, in Exeter, N.H.

Neal Jonathan Yung of Los Altos Hills earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy, N.Y., in December 2001.

Christian P. Schroeder of Los Altos Hills has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program, making him eligible to receive up to $50,000 toward college tuition. He is a 1995 graduate of Gunn High School and will report for basic training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

Thomas Edward Eykyn Gwynn of Los Altos has graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University, in Salem, Ore.

Mark Blackman son of Pam and Brad Blackman of Los Altos, graduated magna cum laude from California State University, San Diego, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance. He is a 1998 graduate of Los Altos High School.

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
