After winning the United State Tennis Association’s Senior League Sectional title, a 3.0-level team from Fremont Hills will represent Northern California at the upcoming USTA Nationals.

Fremont Hills (Los Altos Hills) beat Orindawoods 2-1 in a tiebreaker, which it won 15-13, at the sectional earlier this month. The sectional took place at Sierra Sport and Racquet Club in Fresno.

Fremont Hills will travel to San Diego in October to compete in the national tournament against teams from seven other California cities.

“This is the most exciting event for many of our team members who had never had the opportunity to play team sports in high school and who perhaps had not played any competitive sports before,” team captain Gabriella Bowling said.

The Fremont Hills roster also includes Sandy Tanaka, Tina Myers, Kristen Rettig, Ellie Martindale, Donna Barreto, Barbara Bunting, Laurie Jodgen, Ann Wendin and Carol Crites.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

When members of the Los Altos Village Association first created the summer movie nights, they anticipated an event that would attract more residents downtown as a way to promote business.

What they didn’t anticipate was an influx of middle schoolers, or that parents would use the weekly Friday night affair as an opportunity to drop off their children and have someone else (in this case, the Village Association) effectively watch over them.
