Mountain View resident Don McPhail was recently inducted into the San Francisco State University Athletic Hall of Fame.

“This has been a great year for some of us old guys,” said McPhail, a 1958 graduate of Palo Alto High School. “As a captain on the SF State championship football team in 1964, it is nice to be recognized again, nearly 40 years later.”

McPhail is a professional writer and longtime travel executive. His wife Gretchen Mellberg McPhail was a partner in Expressions, longtime fine arts store in Los Altos.

McPhail attended Menlo College and the U.S. Naval Academy prior to transferring to San Francisco State in 1963.

He is currently vice president of marketing for USA Hosts Destinations Services, a nationwide hospitality company.
