The first Los Altos Hills Pathways Benefit Run/Walk brought more than 180 people, according to organizers of the May 11 event.

The event, at Bryne Preserve and Westwind Barn on Altamont Road, included a challenging 5K trail course and a 1-mile Kids Fun Run through Bryne Preserve. Council member Emily Cheng started the 5K event and then walked the 5K course with her daughter, Serena.

First-place winners for the 5K event for each age category included: Max Lloyd (1-11), Victoria Missirian (12-18), John Robinson (19-39), Don Dewar (40-99); (girls/women) Lauren Reiterman (1-11), Whitney Vellequette (12-18), Mary Munday (19-39) and Geri Macomber (40-99).

In the kids’ Fun Run, first places went to Travis Clark and Hanna Lauterbach. All proceeds will benefit town recreation programs.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
