By Montessori School celebrates 30 years

Montessori School of Los Altos is celebrating its 30th anniversary with music, refreshments, balloons, face-painting and a program honoring individuals who have contributed to the school over the past 30 years. The celebration is scheduled 2-5 p.m., May 18, at Montessori School of Los Altos, 4161 Alma St., Palo Alto.

Montclaire School hosts book fair

Montclaire School has scheduled a Scholastic Book Fair 2-4 p.m., today, and 2-8 p.m., Thursday, at Montclaire’s Guided Learning Center. The fair is open to the community and will feature books and learning materials from more than 150 publishers for readers of all ages.

Patrons of the fair can purchase and donate requested books for any classroom library.

Montclaire School is located at 1160 St. Joseph Ave. For more information, call 967-9388.

LASD Summer School classes available

The Los Altos School District still has space available in some of its summer school classes. If your child is entering fifth, sixth or seventh grade this fall, the following classes are accepting students: Introduction to Puppetry, Drama/Theater, French Conversation, Jazz Band, You Be the Judge, Outdoor Adventures, Health and Study Skills, and Insects.

Registration information is available at the district office, located at 360 S. San Antonio Road, Suite 15.

Summer School classes are open to residents as well as non-residents. For more information, call 941-4010.

Foothill’s Middlefield Campus open house

Foothill College has scheduled an open house of its Middlefield Campus 2-5 p.m., May 30, at the Cubberley Community Center, 4000 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto.

The aviation and pharmacy labs will be open, and there will be music, dancing, art, refreshments and giveaways. For directions, call 949-6950.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
