By Los Altos & St. Francis slide into CCS playoffs

Town Crier Staff Report

Two local softball teams are headed to the Central Coast Section playoffs, as Los Altos and St. Francis highs both earned berths last Saturday.

Ninth-seeded Los Altos (14-12) opens postseason play at 5 p.m. today. The Eagles will face No. 8 Harbor (18-8-1) at the Salinas Sports Complex.

St. Francis, the seventh seed, plays its CCS opener at 3 p.m., Thursday. The Lancers (16-12) will go up against No. 10 St. Ignatius (12-11) at Hawes Field in Redwood City.

Winners move on to Saturday’s quarterfinals, to be played at the same locations.

Los Altos wrapped up its SCVAL De Anza Division season May 8 with a 3-1 win at rival Mountain View.

Starter Alyce Jorgensen did not surrender a hit in 5 2/3 innings of work, while fellow sophomores Ashley Mateo and Lacey Sanborn had two hits each. The Eagles produced nine hits in all.

St. Francis concluded its De Anza Division season that same day, beating host Los Gatos 4-1.

Starter Kerry Tealdi earned the win, improving her record to 6-1, and also had three hits and two RBIs.

Two days earlier, St. Francis shut out host Santa Clara 11-0 to give coach Barry Ivers his 400th win.
