Los Altos High School student Alex Kuo and Vincent Niou will perform Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Violas this weekend as part of two concerts by the El Camino Youth Symphony’s Sinfonietta Orchestra.

The program also includes Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 (”Scotch”) a medley from “Fiddler on the Roof” and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17, Mvt. 1, which will feature pianist Alison Lee.

Kuo and Niou are both ECYS Concerto Competition winners.

Kuo, 15, began playing the violin in the fifth grade, then changed to viola under the advice of ECYS music director Dr. Camilla Kolchinsky. He currently studies with Leonid Kantorovich.

Niou attends Palo Alto High School, while Lee is a fifth-grader at Weibel Elementary School in Fremont.

Saturday’s concert is slated for 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church in Saratoga.

The orchestra will also perform at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, at the Jewish Community Center in Palo Alto as part of the Adele Saxe Concert Series.

The Sinfonietta is an advanced-level orchestra for middle and high school students offering intensive training to prepare students for membership in the ECYS Symphony. Conducted by Kolchinsky, the orchestra features classical repertoire.

Concert tickets are $5-$8.
