The Los Altos boys finished third and the girls fifth at Friday’s SCVAL De Anza Division finals at St. Francis.
The boys 200- and 400-meter freestyle relay teams each placed second, as did Doug Hansen in diving. Chris Kelsch (200 free), Andrew Wiener (100 backstroke) and Jonathan Fishpaw (diving) earned third-place honors.
For the girls, Courtney Beyer took second in the 200 medley and third in the 100 butterfly, while Meghan Sandlin claimed second in the 100 back.
Golf
Jon Wong wasn’t at his best last Friday, but he was good enough to catapult the Los Altos High tennis team into the Central Coast Section Division II semifinals.
Wong’s 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles guaranteed the Eagles a CCS quarterfinal win over visiting R.L. Stevenson.
“Jon struggled, but he won the fourth match,” Los Altos coach Cuong Duong said. “When he had to, he came through.”
The Eagles, who went on to win 5-2, also prevailed at No. 2 singles - where Eddie Kane cruised 6-1, 6-0 - and swept the doubles.
No. 4 Los Altos (14-5) was slated to play at top seed Menlo (21-1) in Tuesday’s semifinals. Defending champion Menlo has ousted Los Altos from the playoffs the past four years.
“Do we have a shot?” Duong said. “Yeah, sure - if everyone plays out of their minds.”
St. Francis also has reached the Division II semis, thanks to Friday’s 4-3 home win over Saratoga. The Lancers swept the doubles and got a win at No. 4 singles from Jeff Tsai.
No. 3 St. Francis (19-3) was scheduled to play at No. 2 Mills (17-2) Tuesday.
Led by medalist J.B. Sines, Los Altos placed second at last week’s De Anza Division tournament and has qualified for this week’s CCS regional event.
