The Los Altos Senior Center, 97 Hillview Ave., has several assistance programs for seniors to help with qualifying for tax credits.
Homeowners/Renters Assistance (rebate program). The year 2000 program based on 2000 income will continue through June 30 at the Los Altos Senior Center.
Homeowners can receive a rebate check for up to $326.40; renters can receive up to $240 from the state.
Assistance with the application is available at the Senior Center. Appointments will resume in May. Call 948-7483 for an appointment.
The Senior Center also has city of Los Altos Library Tax and Utility Users Tax Exemption request forms available. Income guidelines must be met to qualify for these exemptions.
The Santa Clara Valley Water District offers low-income seniors an exemption from the $39 parcel tax that was approved by voters last year.
The Senior Center has the details regarding qualifications for this exemption, and the form needed to apply.
AARP driving courses scheduled
The next two classes for AARP’s 55 Alive Mature Driving are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., May 7 and 9, and Aug. 6 and 8.
You must complete both sessions of each class. Cost for the class is $10 per person.
Classes are limited to 30 people, and fill up quickly. You may send your check payable to AARP, and dated for the first day of the class for which you are registering, to the Senior Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos 94022.
