CUSD and CEA continue talks
In a mutual effort to resolve the issues preventing a contract early enough to retain district teachers, the Cupertino School District and the Cupertino Education Association continue negotiations in parallel to the “impasse” process. The negotiating teams met all day April 4 and 8 and have scheduled another full session Thursday, following the district’s spring vacation, April 15-19.
March 20, the parties agreed that their positions were so far apart that they declared an “impasse.” That set in motion a request for a state mediator. Dorothy Brough, executive director of the CEA, explained that the “impasse” process is slow. It can take up to six months. If the current negotiations result in a settlement, the “impasse” process can be canceled.
LA mayor designates ‘Sober Graduation’ day
Los Altos Mayor Francis La Poll designated Monday Sober Graduation Awareness Day in Los Altos to raise awareness among high school students about the dangers of drinking and driving.
Drunk driving statistics show graduation night can be one of the most dangerous times in a student’s life, according to the city proclamation. Each year police from all Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies participate in rallies, fund-raisers and activities to teach teens about drunk driving.
La Poll said the purpose of the day is to unite all graduates, parents, educators and community leaders in a common goal.
