April 15, 11:17 a.m., Los Altos Rancho Shopping Center: Police said a suspect was shoplifting while assaulting a victim with deadly force.

Medical call

April 16, 1:37 p.m., Yerba Buena Place: Medics treated a person who was having an allergic reaction.

Disturbance

April 16, 10:01 a.m., El Camino Real: Police responded to a report that a person was loitering and refusing a business’ request to leave the area.

Vicious animal

April 17, 1:45 p.m., Almond Avenue: A resident reported an aggressive dog loose in the area.

Suspicious circumstances

April 17, 3:08 p.m., Oak Avenue: Police investigated a report that suspicious items were located in a playground.

Traffic hazard

April 18, 4:22 a.m., Foothill Expressway and El Monte Avenue: Police found a driver asleep in a vehicle. The vehicle was creating a roadway hazard.

April 8, 10:33 p.m., State Street: Police responded to a complaint about loud music coming from a restaurant.

April 13, 11:10 a.m., Lassen Street: Police responded to a resident’s complaint about loud music and construction noise.

Drunk driving

April 10. 9:58 p.m., San Antonio Road and Yerba Buena Avenue.

Vicious dog

April 11, 2:05 p.m., Blue Oak Avenue: A resident reported an aggressive dog. Police referred the report to Palo Alto Animal Services.

Suspicious person

April 12, 12:56 a.m., West Portola Avenue and San Antonio Road: Police requested a transient who had been sleeping on a bus bench, to move.

Fire assist

April 12, 10:44 a.m., First Street: Firefighters assisted a child locked in a vehicle.

Welfare check

April 13, 9:08 a.m., Hillview Avenue: A dog was locked in a vehicle.

Editorial

We’ve recently covered the passing of two of this community’s most involved and committed volunteers, Lee Lynch and Billy Russell. They represented an era when people helped out, not so they could get their name on a building, but because it was simply the right thing to do.

There’s a new generation of volunteers hard at work right now in this community who are carrying on their legacy. The level of involvement in the recent Los Altos Relay For Life event bears this out.
