The California Parks and Recreation Society District IV awarded their Outstanding Volunteer Accomplishment Award to the Los Altos History Museum.
Bob and Marion Grimm accepted the award on behalf of the Association of the Los Altos History Museum.
The presentation cited: “The Association of the Los Altos Historical Museum, an all volunteer organization, has provided outstanding community leadership and results in creating a new Los Altos History Museum for the communities of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills.
The facility will be given to the City of Los Altos this spring. The Association raised over $3 million from the community for the building design and construction.
Many local volunteers led the building and exhibit design concepts and implementation.
The 8,200-square-foot museum has a permanent exhibit on the history of the Los Altos, a changing exhibit area for temporary thematic exhibits and an archival storage area for collections.
Since its opening in March 2001, there have been nearly 10,000 visitors and about 1,500 rental clients.
Society members said, “It is a pleasure to recognize the museum association and a volunteer community of hard-working, dedicated museum leaders who made this achievement possible.”
District IV of the California Parks and Recreation Society represents parks and recreation professionals from San Francisco to San Jose.
