Spring sports summary

Mountain View and Los Altos highs didn’t send a large quantity of athletes to last Friday’s Central Coast Section Top 8 Classic, but both schools received quality results.

Top competitors from throughout the section participated in the meet, held at Los Gatos High, making the performance of the Mountain View boys 400-meter relay team especially impressive.

“Our standout performance of the night was our boys (400) relay team of Jordan Nelson, Richard Turner, Guillermo Moreira and Lewis Hall,” Spartans coach Samantha Read said. “They ran a personal best of 44.28 (seconds) and finished third.”

Individually, Nelson placed eighth in the 100 dash (11.3) and Turner took 10th in the 400 (51.73).

Sophomore Dawn Maxey led the Mountain View girls by finishing eighth in the 100 (13.11) and 12th in the triple jump (30 feet, 11 inches).

For the Los Altos boys, Shane Christine placed sixth in the 400 (50.9) and Taff Dirks claimed 13th in the two-mile run (10:02).

The Los Altos girls were paced by Danielle Marcoux in the 400 (ninth 1:00.9), Laura Perry in the 800 (12th, 2:25) and Haley Lerch in the 100 (13th, 13.4).

In addition, Eagle Andy Van Straaten won the boys frosh-soph high jump (6-0).

Gymnastics

Courtney Sinclair won three events on her way to the all-around title last Thursday in St. Francis’ 178.35-161.10 win over host Gilroy.

Sinclair posted an all-around score of 36.60. The sophomore placed first on bars (9.3), beam (9.4) and floor (9.5). Teammate Corinne Allen, a senior, won the vault with a 9.0.
