Visitors to Business Expo 2002 will have the opportunity to learn not only about the wide variety of businesses in Los Altos, but about other organizations as well. The Los Altos Chamber of Commerce has scheduled the event 4-7 p.m., Thursday, at the Los Altos Youth Center, 1 N. San Antonio Road.

The Business Expo, now in its 14th year, is set to feature 40 exhibitors from all seven Los Altos shopping districts as well as media and non-profit organizations, said Gayle Carter, executive assistant at the chamber of commerce.

“I’ve got businesses from all areas, including restaurants, three hotels, optometrists, travel agencies, skin care, art galleries,” Carter noted. “There are a variety of non-profit organizations: the Los Altos Community Foundation, Bus Barn Stage Company and the Los Altos History Museum. The Los Altos Golf and Country Club will be there.”

Attendees will have an opportunity to win raffle prizes donated by local merchants. Individual businesses will also offer prize drawings at their displays.

Hungry visitors can sample food from local restaurants, such as Armadillo Willy’s, Chef Chu’s, Estrellita and Le Boulanger.

The Town Crier will offer visitors the chance to participate in a brief touch-screen opinion survey at its exhibit.

“We want the public to be aware of the kinds of businesses there are in Los Altos,” Carter said. “The event also gives businesses the opportunity to network with each other.”

Admission to Business Expo 2002 is $5, $3 with the coupon on page 18. For more information, call 948-1455.

In Our Opinion

Editorial

When members of the Los Altos Village Association first created the summer movie nights, they anticipated an event that would attract more residents downtown as a way to promote business.

What they didn’t anticipate was an influx of middle schoolers, or that parents would use the weekly Friday night affair as an opportunity to drop off their children and have someone else (in this case, the Village Association) effectively watch over them.
