St. Simon School’s eighth-grade girls basketball team concluded its season by winning the Girls Parochial Athletic Conference postseason tournament.
St. Simon of Los Altos entered the nine-team tournament as the No. 1 seed, having compiled a 16-0 record.
In last month’s final, St. Simon defeated No. 3 St. Joseph School of Atherton 50-43.
The Saints had a 12-point lead entering the fourth quarter, then the Bulldogs went on a 13-0 run to take a 41-40 advantage. St. Simon then picked up its defensive pressure and surged ahead for the victory.
The Saints were led by point guard Cynthia Curley and post player Lizzy Rouleau, later named league MVP, with 16 points each. Kim Schumann and Kelly Cave added eight and four points, respectively.
Kathryn Kamenski and Schumann played stellar defense, limiting St. Joseph star Britney Blythe to 12 points.
St. Simon’s bench - Megan Keefhaver, Bri Kerrigan, Brianne Limber and Colleen Powers - contributed throughout the tournament.
In the first round, the Saints routed St. Joseph School of Mountain View 53-8, then pulled out a hard-fought game against Pinewood School in the semifinals.
