El Camino Symphony gala
The El Camino Youth Symphony will honor their benefactors and welcome new donors at the second annual Benefactor’s Gala, scheduled for 1-3 p.m., April 28, at the Garden Court Hotel in Palo Alto.
The afternoon festivities will include wine and hors d’oeuvres, and will feature the ECYS String Quartet and the ECYS faculty in duet performances with their students. Admission to this event is a $250 contribution which supports the ECYS music education program.

Avoiding stress and injuries
“How to move your body and avoid stress and injuries” is the topic of an interactive workshop to be held 6:30 p.m., April 17, at El Camino Hospital, 2500 Grant Road, Mountain View.
Dr. Rachel Frozenfar, chiropractor, will speak on ways to protect and treat your body in order to live a more productive lifestyle. Randy Lane, massage therapist, will talk about healing techniques for the body.
In the interactive workshop, you will learn how to bend, lift, carry and perform tasks in ways to prevent injuries; exercises that strengthen your back and other areas; what to do if you have fallen to prevent further injuries; and stress and relaxation tips.

One-woman show at Beth Am
“Flowers Aren’t Enough” is an original one-woman show about women’s courage to make a change. Written and performed by Naomi Ackerman, an American-born Israeli artist, this performance will be presented at 7:30 p.m., April 21, at Congregation Beth Am, 26790 Arastradero Road, Los Altos Hills. Tickets cost $25, $15 for students, seniors and low-income citizens.
Proceeds benefit Sequoia Hadassah-Aviv projects.
The play is a monologue that tells the story of Michelle, a young woman struggling in an abusive relationship, unable to reach out for help in finding the courage to make a change.
The hourlong performance is followed by an hour of discussion with the audience, facilitated by Ackerman, an experienced mediator and conflict resolution specialist.

Plant sale at Foothill
The Foothill College Ornamental Horticulture Department will host a plant sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, at the horticulture facility on campus (adjacent to parking lot 4). Bring eight quarters for parking, which will be reimbursed with a $10 purchase.
The sale will feature a variety of perennials, palms and house plants. Also available will be a selection of shrubs and ground covers. Foothill College is located at 12345 El Monte Road, in Los Altos Hills.
Gallery 9 schedules Kasle monotypes
Gallery 9 has scheduled the exhibit “Another Place, Another Time,” monotypes by Maida Kasle of Menlo Park, April 23 through May 25.
Kasle reflects her interest in people in her painting and printmaking.
Most of her people come from the glamorous and not-so-glamorous past, and are able to evoke pathos as well as humor.
The public is invited to a reception for the artist 5-8 p.m., April 26, at Gallery 9, 143 Main St., Los Altos.
Meeting for Good helping singles
Meeting for Good is a non-profit organization with the dual purpose of helping our community and providing a forum for meeting other singles. Nakamatsu featured in benefit concert
A benefit recital concert featuring renowned pianist and Foothill College alumnus Jon Nakamatsu will be presented at 3:30 p.m., June 23, in the Smithwick Theater, Foothill College, 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills.
The concert proceeds will benefit Foothill College fine arts programs.
Advance tickets are $60, general; $125 for Gold Circle patrons. Gold Circle tickets include an after-concert reception with the pianist, preferred seating and free parking.

Foothill Garden Club to hold plant sale
The Foothill Garden Club is scheduled to hold its annual flower and vegetable plant sale at Rancho Shopping Center this week. The event will be held 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.
This is an opportunity to purchase plants for your spring garden and help the local community. Traditionally, funds raised at this event have been donated to local horticulture education programs.
Rancho Shopping Center is located at the intersection of Springer Road and Foothill Expressway in Los Altos.
‘Paddle Daze’ at aquatic center
Shoreline Aquatic Center in Mountain View will hold “Western Mountaineering Paddle Daze” 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, introducing new designs in canoes and kayaks. Those interested can try out for free these new equipment designs on the lake. Lifejackets (PFDs) will be provided.
