By The Boy Scouts of America presented Josh Solera of Los Altos Troop 37 with his Eagle Scout award on March 2 at the Los Altos Youth Center.

Solera has been with Troop 37 since 1995, serving as patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader and Order of the Arrow representative.

In addition, he served as patrol leader at the 19th World Jamboree in Chile in 1999 and as senior patrol leader at the National Jamboree last year.

As his required project, Solera planned, organized and oversaw the assembly of five metal lunch tables for Blach Intermediate School and the refurbishing and reconstruction of six redwood lunch tables for various elementary schools in the Los Altos School District.

The project took Solera’s team of 14 just under 100 person-hours to complete.

The tables have been particularly useful at the Blach camp school, where the students have been relocated while their school is undergoing extensive renovation.

Brandon Roberts, a senior at Los Altos High School, has achieved Scouting’s highest award, that of Eagle Scout, as a member of Los Altos Boy Scout Troop 37. Roberts has been active in Scouting for 11 years, starting at Almond School as a member of Los Altos “Tiger Cubs,” a preview for Cub Scouting, advancing through Cub Scout Pack 77 and then into Boy Scouts.

His community service projects include a mission to Mexico helping building homes for the disadvantaged, “Scouting For Food” donation collection, packaging food donations at Second Harvest Food Bank and placing gravesite flags at Veterans’ cemeteries.

Roberts’ Eagle scout project consisted of planning, organizing and overseeing the construction of two folding game tables for the Los Altos United Methodist Church Youth Room.

The project took a total of 102 man-hours contributed by 16 Scouts and adults.

Life skills learned through the Scouting program include leadership training, CPR and First Aid certification, water rescue, fire safety, emergency preparedness and other survival skills.
