By Chefs Who Care at Global Village

The “Chefs Who Care” benefit dinner will be held Monday at the Global Village Cafe, 209 Castro St., Mountain View. Global Village will seat up to 30 people per hour, 5-9 p.m.

To make a reservation and to make your menu selection, call Global Village at 965-4821. After that, either mail your check, payable to Chefs Who Care, to Community Services Agency, 204 Stierlin Road, Mountain View 94043; or give your credit card (Visa/MasterCard) information over a 24-hour phone line, 961-3584.

Thursday is the deadline for prepaying. No payments will be accepted at the door.

Cost is $20 adults, $10 children (ages 6-12). Half the dinner cost is donated to the Food and Nutrition Center and is tax deductible.

Student art show sheduled

The Los Altos Art Docents’ annual student art show, featuring artwork by students in the Los Altos and Mountain View-Los Altos Union school districts, will be held Thursday through Sunday at the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave.

Admisssion is free. Gallery viewing hours are 3-5 p.m., Thursday and Friday; and 1-5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Children are invited to make fun and creative “hands-on” projects 1-3 p.m., Saturday.

Western Horticultural Society meets

The next meeting of the Western Horticultural Society of Palo Alto is scheduled 7:30 p.m., April 10, at Loyola School, 770 Berry Ave., Los Altos.

Bill McNamara will speak on the Quarryhill Botanical Garden. Admission is free. Visitors are welcome.

One-woman show at Beth Am

“Flowers Aren’t Enough” is a powerful, original one-woman show about a woman’s courage to make a change. Written and performed by Naomi Ackerman, an American-born Israeli artist, this performance will be presented at 7:30 p.m., April 21, at Congregation Beth Am, 26790 Arastradero Road, Los Altos Hills. Tickets cost $25, $15 for students, seniors and low-income citizens. Proceeds benefit Sequoia Hadassah-Aviv projects.

The play is a monologue that tells the story of Michelle, a young woman struggling in an abusive relationship, unable to reach out for help in finding the courage to make a change.

The hourlong performance is followed by an hour of discussion with the audience, facilitated by Ackerman, who is an experienced mediator and a conflict resolution specialist.

Plant sale at Foothill

The Foothill College Ornamental Horticulture Department will host a plant sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., April 13 and 14, at the horticulture facility on campus (adjacent to parking lot 4). Bring eight quarters for parking, which will be reimbursed with a $10 purchase.

The sale will feature a variety of perennials, palms, and house plants. Also available will be a selection of shrubs and ground covers. Foothill College is located at 12345 El Monte Road in Los Altos Hills.

Westwind Barn celebrates Earth Day

Westwind Barn in Los Altos Hills will be holding its first Earth Day celebration, 1-4 p.m., April 21.

The event will feature exhibits by Los Altos Hills committees, local environmental groups and school groups. As a special attraction, Leopard’s Etc. will hold a “Live Wild Cats” education program. Presentations are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m..

Local winemakers have been invited to participate as well. For more information, call 941-4808.
