Alta Vista High, a continuation school in Mountain View, bowed out in the opening round of the South Bay Big Five league playoffs March 20 at Cubberley Community Center.

The host Aztecs fell 52-45 to Peninsula, a team that later lost to Brenkwitz in the championship game.

Alta Vista was led by Luke Kieninger (15 points) and Joseph Tugade (12).

“The kids played very hard,” said John Figueroa, who coaches Alta Vista with Bob Adams. “It was a good game all the way to the end.”

Alta Vista led 26-14 at halftime, then watched Peninsula go on an overwhelming 38-19 run the rest of the way.

The Aztecs finished the season with a record of 3-5 in league and 4-5 overall.
