By Water flushing to start Jan. 7

Mountain View’s annual water main-flushing program is scheduled to begin Jan. 7 and continue through April 5. Water main-flushing is a process to clear water lines of sand and sediment that may have accumulated during the year.

Signs and barricades will be posted in neighborhoods the day before flushing is to take place to alert residents.

Residents may notice a temporary reduction in water pressure and possible water discoloration as water mains are flushed. City officials said the water will remain safe to drink but encourage residents to limit their water use and to refrain from washing clothes during this period. This reduces the possibility of sand and sediment from entering your water system. When flushing is complete, you may flush your own water line until the water turns clear.

For more information, call the city’s public services division at 903-6329.
