On Dec. 4 The 2001 Gentry Community Stars Awards program selected the Peninsula Symphony for one of its coveted awards. The orchestra will be featured in the April issue of Gentry Magazine.
The awards program was instituted to give recognition to the unsung heroes of the community and to attempt to change, for the better, the course of human life.
The symphony has strong Los Altos roots, with supportive residents and an office located in the Masonic Lodge building on Main Street in Los Altos.
The Peninsula Symphony has been in existence for 50 years. Except for its conductor and music director, Mitchell Sardou Klein, it is a volunteer organization.
The board manages the finances, and the Symphony Auxiliary performs all the other tasks.
The next event will be “An Evening of Jazz & Richard Rodgers,” 8 p.m., Jan. 12, in Flint Center, De Anza College.
The show will also be performed 8 p.m., Jan. 11, at San Mateo Performing Arts Center, 600 N. Delaware Ave., San Mateo.
The featured guest will be Jeremy Cohen with his jazz violin. Cohen and his trio return to the symphony to highlight two great American traditions - jazz and the music of Richard Rodgers, including a debut of a new Rodgers medley.
