The board of directors of the Community School of Music and Arts recently announced the appointment of Angela A. McConnell as executive director. McConnell has a long history with the non-profit organization, most recently serving as interim executive director since July of this year.
McConnell was vice chairwoman of the board of directors from 1999 until her recent appointment. She also served as the school’s chief development officer from 1992 through 1994.
“Angela’s long-standing commitment to and passion for the school, coupled with her extensive non-profit management experience, will ensure continued strong leadership for the school. The board is thrilled with her appointment,” commented Bob Reay, chairman of the board of directors.
From 1995 to 1999, McConnell served as director of development at the San Jose Museum of Art, where she was responsible for a fund development department that raised $3.5 million annually and for implementing the museum’s first multimillion-dollar endowment campaign. McConnell has a master’s degree in non-profit administration from the University of San Francisco and an undergraduate degree in psychology from Manhattanville College in New York.
“It is an honor to work with CSMA’s inspiring faculty and staff. Bringing music and arts education programs to our schools and providing lessons for students of all ages enriches our entire community. I feel privileged to be able to lead the organization at this time of exciting growth,” said McConnell.
Since its founding in 1968, the Community School of Music and Arts has served more than 300,000 people of all ages through lessons, classes, camps, arts-in-the-schools programs, free family concerts, art exhibitions and community outreach events. Its financial aid program awards more than $145,000 annually to youth and those from low-income families.
